Earth Day 2018

April 22 is Earth Day. But for nonprofits dedicated to protecting animal and plant species from extinction, keeping our landscape from more resembling a moonscape, and preserving the quality of our air and water, every day is Earth Day. Here are 10 of the many that do just that:

National Parks Conservation Association

Washington, D.C.

The National Parks Conservation Association works to ensure that our national parks and monuments are welcoming and well funded, well managed, and well protected for generations today and tomorrow.

“NPCA is a great advocate for our National Parks. The association keeps me well informed through email newsletters of top issues they are working on. The magazine has exposed me to so many of our national resources I wasn’t aware of and we’ve incorporated visits to these locations into our travels.”

“I’m a frequent visitor to our national parks and am personally familiar with the important contributions of this important association.”

Center for Biological Diversity

Tucson, Ariz.

The Center for Biological Diversity believes that the welfare of human beings is deeply linked to nature—to the existence in our world of a vast diversity of wild animals and plants. Because diversity has intrinsic value, and because its loss impoverishes society, the center works to secure a future for all species, great and small, hovering on the brink of extinction.

“The Center for Biological Diversity is a brave, scientific advocacy organization for wildlife and their wild habitats. Subscribe to their newsletter, and see the wild world–and its environmental crises, and the solutions that are being applied to them–open up before you. It’s vital work, and it’s done well by The Center for Biological Diversity.”

“My sons fondly remember planting trees at a Canopy Martin Luther King Jr. Day event and hope to participate in another event soon. They got to help with the whole tree-planting process, from digging the holes to admiring the new trees. Canopy is so right that growing greener communities and empowering youth go hand in hand.
